Remote Restricted Trekking

Some of the northern parts of Nepal especially those bordering with Tibet of China were restricted for the visitors. There were two motives for the restriction, conservation of local environment & culture, and Chinese sensitivity along its border during the Cold War & Sino-India War. After the ending of the Cold War & reestablishment of the multiparty system in Nepal in the 90s, the restriction was lifted on the condition of travelling only with the government recognized travel company. These were the Trans-Himalayan areas of Manang and Dolpo where the French filmmaker Eric Valley made the Oscar winning movie The Caravan. The protagonist 8 the main character of the movie still passes through the ancient Salt Trade Routes carrying rocksalt on his caravan of the Himalayan Asses. Many adventure tourists feed proud these days for beng able to put their mark in these now open but still remote areas of the Himalayas.
