Trekking

Trekking in India may not be as famous as in Nepal, but there are immense possibilities for trekking in the Indian Himalayas. In fact, the British Raj were among the first westerns to bring the idea of trekking in the far fetched Himalayas. Even the visits to Mount Everest were clandestinely attempted by the British Surveyors of the East India Company.

Some Major Trekking Routes in India:

Ladakh Trekking
Ladakh is a region influenced by the Tibetan Buddhism. It’s also called “the little Tibet”.Trek on the ancient Silk Roads, the cross of the Khardong La pass (5400 m), on the highest motorable roads in the world.

Sikkim Trekking:
Sikkim used to be an independent country until its merger in India in 1978. Sikkim shares its border with Nepal & Bhutan. Sikkim is famous for world’s third hightest peak of the Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Darjeeling Trekking:
Earlier a part of Sikkim, Darjeeling is the famous hill station that lies just opposite to Mt. Kanchejugha. It’s famous for the Tiger Hills, panoramic mountain views, the world’s highest railway.

Himanchal Pradesh Trekking:
The famous Dharmashala of the Dalai Lama lies here. Other famous places are the famous hill station of Shimla, and Kullu & Manali. Trek in a perennial cold climate.

Garhwal Trekking:
The Garhwal used to be a Nepali territory, which Nepal lost with its war with the British in 1832. The Mussoorie & Dehradun are the popular hill stations in this region.

Kumaon Trekking:
Kumao is home to peaks & glaciers of religious importance used by the ancient Sadhus, & described in Hindu scriptures.
