India Introduction

History

The archeological discovery of the ancient sites of Mohenjo-Daro & Harappa dating back to at least 3000 years before Christ prove that India belongs to one of the oldest civilization of the human beings. Some historicists claim that the words India & Hindus were the names given by the Greeks to the land & people of the region beyond the Indus River. A claim still goes unrefuted that the Indian history of the modern human beings is at least 12,000 years old.

The pre-historic period of India has been divided into three Ages: Stone, Bronze, & Iron. Many civilizations, & empires rose & fell and India was invaded by many other races until the British Raj colonized India during the 18th century. But the modern India that we see now was born in 1947, when the British were forced to leave the country & Pakistan seceded to form a separate Muslim nation.

Since 1947, India is a secular nation comprising of 28 states & seven union territories, each state with their own government, and a central government in the capital New Delhi. India prides itself calling the world’s largest democracy.
